I think you'd be pretty disappointed if you expected a big meal. You'd end up making your way through all that armor, only to end up with about three bites.

I'd be too afraid of getting infected with the T-virus by eating a Chryssalid, and I'm sure eating a Muton would be like eating a burger from a cow that was given a bunch of artificial growth hormones. Personally, I'm gonna stick with Earth food, and some good old fashion, naturally home grown soylent green.

Though I have to admit, the food made by the Kanamit aliens is pretty good, too. If only I knew how they made it. Maybe if I can finish translating this book of theirs, "To Serve Man", I'll figure it out.....

nice work though a 1000 pound meatsack is scared by little anime kid with a oversized key... seems legit.
He took out Large Bodys, Fat Bandits, an Ice Titan, an Earth Titan, a giant three-headed hellhound, the god of the Underworld, a pissed off genie, a sea witch the size of a sky-scrapper, Chernobog, and the friggin' One-Winged Angel himself, all in the first game. Call me crazy, but I don't think Sora would have much trouble with a single Muton.

Well, it all depends on which game's mechanic is used. In Enemy Unknown, one could just kite Sora using 'move'n'shoot', occasionally tossing a grenade when the shot would be poor. Sora would probably die before the Muton would have to reload. Never underestimate a Plasma Rifle.

However, if the Muton uses the KH system? Well, there's probably a reason that melee weapons have outstripped ranged weapons in that universe, aside from kid-friendliness and rule of cool.

Happy Steam Summer Sale everyone!

Speaking of tactics, I just got scared again by how intelligent X-COM's AI is. Storytime. I've had two instances where I've been straight-up outsmarted, rather than losing to odds. The first was during the first terror mission of my first Classic Ironman playthrough where there were many Chryysalids and many zombies, and I only had one Heavy remaining. Just as I decide that now would probably be a good time to make a retreat, a Chryysalid and a zombie, both of which were out of range initially, positioned themselves so that my path back to the Skyranger was blocked and that, no matter what I did, my Heavy would die. I had a few options as to how exactly she would die. I chose the explosive one.
The second one, which I encountered today in my third Classic Ironamn playthrough, was also during a terror mission where I ran smack-bang into a Sectopod with my Support. I cloaked her and moved her back to the rest of the team and I essentially set up camp and spammed Overwatch. 3 turns passed, and a Drone peeked out. It got shot by my MEC. Another 2 turns passed, and then, seemingly fed up with my tactical waiting, the Sectopod blew a hole in the wall. I didn't even know it could do that.
Anyone else got a similar story?

And thus we have the problem when you try to match up two opponents from games with completely different rules. You can always claim the one with he home field advantage will win. But in a neutral field that combines both rules in some way, I'd put my money on Sora. Remember, a well placed guard or swing can block practically everything, and deflect most attacks, including projectile attacks from Fat Bandit's, Darkballs, Gargoyles, Red Nocturnes, Angle Stars, Stealth Sneak, Cerberus, and the Ice Titan. I'd argue no matter what the battle ground, as long as Sora's Keyblade works as it does in his game, he could easily deflect a plasma shot back at the Muton, and that would probably be enough to blow it's head off.

If your talking about the mission with the Chryssalids popping out of the whale, I'm sure most of us have had a bad experience with that one, especially the first time we played it if you're not prepared for it, and I wasn't. I, too, discovered on this mission that the Chyssalids are a lot smarter then I gave them credit for. Bug body doesn't necessarily mean bug-brained. They put me in my place as I made my way to the ship. I lost a mech unit and a sniper on the way because of the chyssalids new ability to sense my soldiers. When I activated the beacon, I lost the sniper that activated it (I sent her because she had the gene enhancement that lets her jump) because she was too far behind.

Then, as my last two soldiers were running to escape the aliens and the blast, three chryssalids surrounded my heavy, one blocking the way forward. Rather then running forward and risking them both getting killed, the heavy sacrificed himself by taking a turn to throw a flash grenade. It slowed the chryssalids enough for my support to get right within spitting distance of the drop ship. Suddenly, a chryssalid burst out of a nearby shark and, with three others, completely surrounded him. Luckily, he was able to leap between them and make it to the ship. He must have had the leg ability too, because if he didn't, he wouldn't have been able to move at all.

I lost four great soldiers, including a mech-soldier, two with gene enhancements, and ones with medals. And depressingly, the only reward was panic reduction across North America, which already had full satellite coverage. Worse still, iin the end, it was all for naught, because some glitch corrupted my save data shortly after, and because I was playing on Ironman, it was my only save, and I had to start all over again.

I actually had a very easy time the first time I played that mission. Mostly because I had four MECs and two hover SHIVs, and was able to make quick progress by having the MECs guard the landing site and the SHIVs flew off to go secure the objective. Good thing Chryssalids can't fly.

Now, Muton Berserkers on the other hand... that is one hell of a story. A Medium UFO mission, late-ish game, have plasma weapons but only carapace armor. As I advance through the entry way, I accidentally set off a pack of mutons and a Mechtoid/Sectoid Commander pair, which proceed to all run further into the UFO. I decided to try and slip around the other entrance for the cockpit area, and breach from there. As I have everybody set up, a Muton bursts through the door, drawing ALL of the overwatch fire. Predictably, he gets shredded. However, now I have NO OVERWATCH shots, with the angry residents of the UFO on the otherside of the door. Berserker Bull Rushes, knocking out cover on three of my soldiers and putting my revive-specced Support into critical wounds (this always seems to happen). The other Muton tosses a grenade, blowing out more of my cover, the Mechtoid kills my MEC and my Assault, and the Commander psi-panics the Sniper, causing him to turn the Heavy's head into Chunky Salsa. At that point, I only had my secondary Support left.

I haven't touched that save file in months.

Yeah, my trouble with the chryssalid mission came from me not knowing what to expect, so I went in with only five soldiers and most of the original weapons.

And I feel your pain. I can't even begin to count how many well-laid plans went to hell all because some jackass came out of no where and wasted all of my overwatches. And nothing kills your mood quite like a Berserker punching a hole into one of you soldier's chest. I also feel your pain with my healers seeming to always be the first one to go down when it matters most.

If were talking about the missions that reminded us to never underestimate X-COM, then I have a mission to talk about. Now my mission takes place very late in the game it's the base defense mission, and I beat this mission by the skin of my teeth.

The first time I did the base defense mission I demolished the first alien that came out, but the first wave sucked My heavy was surrounded by three crysslides, two of them attacked her but the killing blow surprised me my heavy died to a muton berserker, now what surprised me was the berserker used its ability now the berserker charged my heavy and not only did it kill my heave but it also killed the three crysslides that surrounded her.

but the carousal part of the mission the part that during that hole is towards the end, near the end I had my best sniper who had the default armor a mech who was badly wounded an assault and some of the security of X-com. Now what happen to them my mech and assault got mind controlled my rookies get murder and my sniper is on her last bit of health. now on the aliens turn I'm expecting to get killed ou yea and I killed the crysslid on my last turn. so on the aliens turn they thought it would be funny to kill me with my own soldiers but my soldiers there aim turned out pretty shitty because my assault was in front of me with her shot gun and misses twice and my mech also misses and then they were free from the aliens control and I got my revenge. now that mission was the first time in a while where I felt worried and made me nerves.
