I don't think are making that comparison that any real world minority group eats human flesh. But they are, in Canon lore, a minority of Elves that were shunned and cast out due to a factor in their birth that they have no control over. I think that's the comparison people are trying to make.

That would be a cool backstory if they expanded on that more. Like... Actually showed it. The lore says that they were shunned and hated but do we really see them examine that more in the media? No. Not really. The Elves aren't even painted as being bad people despite the fact that they did that...

Armies don't just exist to exist though. It's just lazy. It's just so disappointing for me personally to see so much potential for story and lore wasted by using 1 dimensional brainless mooks.
