"Well, my blood allows people to cheat death... Has some horrible side effects, but it cheats death nevertheless. Sirius is going to use me to revive his soldiers repeatedly." Tobias answered, using his limited magic to create a lock pick on his right hand.
She watched him but didn't interfere. "What kind of side effects?" she asked, her tone a bit urgent like it was a personal question.
"Permanent memory lose, personality alterations, hallucinations, worse case scenario it will caused your soul to just disintegrate into nothing." Tobias freed his arm and was already working on the next. "Minor issue early on... Counterproductive after multiple uses."
"I wouldn't call it quite that minor," Lana muttered sadly.
"That's why I avoid dying." Tobias added in a casual tone.
Lana huffed and watched him. "Aren't you afraid I'll stop you? All I have to do is yell, or push that red button over there, and..."
"Attempt to explain to your father why you are in this room without authorization?" Tobias replied. "Have fun with that. Besides, I can't leave this room with all of these runes surrounding me. Figured I'd make it easier for Aya and JJ to bust me out when they arrive."
"You really think someone would face my father in order to get to you?" She asked with a laugh.
"Aya's risk her own life for me before, and I've died for her a few times." Tobias explained. "We trust each other... And we both trust Captain Kitty."
Lana shrugged. "If you say so. Just a word if advice? Be careful who you trust. They'll always betray that trust if they feel the need to." She turned away.
"You mean like your father?" Tobias noted as he armed his other chance. "I mean... Why else would you be here if you didn't trust him?"
"I don't trust anyone anymore," she muttered, squeezing her fist. "The closest I can come to trusting someone is... is Tiamat."
"I wouldn't..." Tobias replied. "I mean, I trust she knows what's doing. I don't trust her to do the right thing... Most certain wouldn't trust her with my life, considering she's the reason I'm here."
"That's you." Lana turned around around. "She is the reason I'm here too. The reason I'm alive. Being dead once, trust me... I appreciate being alive."
"Dead once?" Tobias chuckled. "I've died thirty-seven times now? It's hard to keep count after a while."
"I thought you said dying is really bad for you," she said, raising an eyebrow. "Thirty-seven times?"
"Thirty- seven times over three hundred and twenty-one years isn't the end of the world." The Phoenix replied. "It's when I die multiple times in quick succession that it becomes an issue."
"Yeah, well... you try and avoid that, and I'll do the same." Lana looked around for a few moments before finding what she was looking for. "Want a little help knowing how to be freed?"
"I had no intention of escaping until my girlfriend got here, but sure... I'll take the advice." Tobias began stretching.
She removed the cover to a ser ice tunnel. "I know the ins and outs of this ship, and as long as the person is small enough, they can find their way anywhere on the ship through these tunnels, even to this room. Let them know that, and have them send someone small, and they'll be able to get in this room to free you."
"I'll be sure to hack into your father's systems to let them know to send Winter." Tobias said with a joking tone.
"You do that." She crawled into the shaft and looked back. "And don't try and hurt my father... or I'll kill you myself."
"It'll take more than one death, but I'm sure it would help ya vent." Tobias muttered as he pried open a control panel. "Not that I have anything against him... It's the Captain and M'Lady who have the personal vendetta against him. He is a corrupt bastard though."
Lana turned away. "Learned that the hard way," she whispered before crawling away.
