Born in Boston in 1979, Aya led a simple life with her parents and twin sister Maya. However, on December 23, 1984, Aya was in a car accident with her mother and sister, both of whom died. Afterwards, her father, a journalist, was forced to raise his surviving daughter alone, the two relying on each other for comfort over their loss. At the age of seven, Aya received a corneal transplant to correct a defect in her right eye at St. Francis hospital in New York City, the donor being her own sister, who's organs had been preserved.
As a young woman, Aya studied Criminology at the University of Virginia, and participated in the Reserve Officer's Training Corps program. She later relocated to New York City and became an NYPD officer, where she worked for three years between 2003-06, where she was eventually promoted to detective. During this time, she became involved in what is known to the general public as the New York Blockade Incident, which included the mass evacuation of the island of Manhattan after the release of an unknown air-born substance resulted in numerous occurrences of what appeared to be spontaneous human combustion, as well as extensive damage to the NYPD 17th Precinct, St. Francis Hospital, Carnegie Hall, Central Park, the Chrysler Building, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Statue of Liberty.
The exact circumstances revolving around how Aya was able to resolve the incident are unknown, but she left the NYPD soon after the incident and joined a special division of the FBI based out of Los Angeles, who's official purpose was "to hunt down and eliminate lesser known threats to the well-being of America." She remained with this group until September 2007, during which time an incident with a terrorist group operating in a secret base in the Mojave Desert resulted in the FBI declaring Aya's division's work to be "complete," and it was dissolved.
Aya spent the next five years living a quiet life with a man she met during the Mojave desert incident, identity confidential, and a young girl named Eve, who was adopted by Aya as her 'sister' under unknown circumstances. Her quiet life was shattered on December 24th, 2013, when her wedding at Saint Thomas Church in New York City with her five-year boyfriend was attacked by an unknown terrorist group, resulting in the death of the groom. Aya enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to raise her skills in the hopes of one day finding her lovers killers, and rose through the ranks at an unprecidented rate.
Physical Appearance: Being of Asian and Caucasian descent, Aya displays features from both her Japanese mother and her American father. She has many Asian facial features, such as the shape of her face and eyes, while possessing blue eyes and fair blonde hair. Attractive, though never using sexuality to an advantage, Aya has a somewhat small figure, but is not frail in any way; she is fairly agile, and while she’s not a power house, she is by no means weak. She may be stronger than her appearance, both physically and mentally, as she tends to out-perform those around her who appear to be much stronger.
Due to unknown medical reasons that baffle every doctor that examines her, Aya's aging has slowed to a crawl. Despite being in her late thirties, Aya appears to have barely aged since her early twenties. Thus, she has retained her youthful agility and mental fortitude, though she would prefer to live a normal life like everyone else.
Personality: On the surface, Aya can appear to be sarcastic, cold, and brooding, having bad habit of not being able to take people seriously sometimes, particularly when they express any sort of interest in her, as she tends to brush them off. However, inside she is honest, kind and compassionate. She can be gentle and nurturing, and even maternal at time, especially towards children. She has very humanitarian and altruistic attributes, believing all life to be priceless. It is practically incapable of turning a blind eye to the suffering of others, and can be self-sacrificing, often to a fault. If she someone in danger, she often acts compulsively, betraying her usual intelligence in an effort to save them.
The pains and trials she has gone through has left her alienated to the world around her. She keeps most of her interactions with others professional, though she can be quite patient. She suffers from a type of survivor's guilt over those who have died around her, especially those who died protecting her, and it can weigh her done, much to Maya's displeasure.
Special Notes: Due to the incident in New York during the New York Blockade Incident, Aya has a significant amount of unconscious control over the evolutionary level of her mitochondria. This has gifted her with a number of unique physical and psychokinetic abilities, including self-healing, creation of a psychokinetic barrier, a charge energy shot, pyrokinesis, and a little known ability few have seen her use. In an attempt to be more 'normal', however, she very rarely uses her abilities, instead counting on her combat skills to win a fight.
