Oh God the flashbacks. Handful of those things crawling out of the darkness, your reaction fire all misses (and you cap one of your own guys in the back of the head, because UFO Defense), so you gun the zombies down on your turn. Then the 'Lids pop out, with full TUs, and all your soldiers are nice and bunched up while wearing bright crimson shirts.

You know... I read between the lines there and it just made me more depressed.
If Buniq lived and Ammelia wasn't there to see her go into the portal, she probably died saving her. Buniq couldn't deal with the guilt of Ammy taking a bullet for her and pretty much committed suicide because of it. When I puzzled that out... I kinda sorta cried myself to sleep thinking about it...
Jumping on band wagon, I would have at least liked to see Cayden cameo
Well it is Gem's character...maybe THAT is why she became such a badass!

Just because Buniq lost a lover doesn't mean she committed suicide over it. That's really grim. Buniq didn't die because she didn't want to live: she gave her life for the same reason Acedia, Mikhail, and the others did: to give us a second chance to end this war and prevent that future. Only time will tell if we succeed, or if the future is not exactly the one in that post, but similar...
