This reminds me of the time my college SciFI/Fantasy club argued over whether or not SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie should be considered a fantasy movie or not.
You what.

Unless you know your enemy, how can you truly justify the fight you do is really that righteous?
Propaganda.

The real question here seems to be boiling down to this: is Alby Foulke Paragon or Renegade?

This reminds me of the Rachni in Mass Effect 3 as well. You had the choice to either kill her or save her species. After you save her it later says how cultural the Rachni actual were and that their "songs" were corrupted by the call of the Reapers. In my opinion this mission is not all that different.Unless you know your enemy, how can you truly justify the fight you do is really that righteous? (I am glad I took Philosophy...)
Eh...the chryssalids aren't really like the Rachni. They don't have as many redeeming qualities. From what Dante said, it seemed like they were always rather savage. His knowledge is limited, but it doesn't sound like they have much good left over. Or that the changes could be reverted by us. The slaughter in Moscow. Never forget that.

Our "reapers" the ethereals may have changed them, but the way they breed has always been that way, I think. They were just made to be able to target humans, or do so as their only organic enemy. The fact that they're so uncontrollable and need biological kill switches means that they likely weren't a very peaceful species to begin with.

And to anyone saying we shouldn't judge them by our standards...they kill people as a whole. That's enough reason to fight without hesitation.

I just want to share a bit of my writing beliefs. My philosophy with anything in a writing form a media is that if your character can be mapped to another character and can be picked apart as a virtual copy, then it was not a character worth creating. Unfortunately we live in a time where originality is a hard thing to create. Not to say that it is completely unheard of, in fact quite the opposite. I believe originality, and I am quoting a teacher I have here, "Originality nowadays is the ability to take an object, and look at it in the eyes of a person who had done something wonderful with it. Learn from what they did right and take note of what they did wrong and apply that to your work to create something great." This isn't really related to anything right now but more of advice from a fellow writer and friend, whether or not something may have happened before, doesn't mean it isn't something worth exploring yourself.

Makes sense to me, to an extent. The thing is, the definition of a 'copy' is not so defenitive. And if the similarities are coincidental, then that's even more muddled. Besides, there's nothing wrong with an inspired character every once and awhile...plus, you can't expect large casts to be 'pure originality'. That's a bit unrealistic...

There is no such thing as an "original story" as of the first few decades of human civilisation. There are, at a basic guess, around 10 or so distinctly different stories in existence. Hero does this, does some other stuff, hero wins. That sort of thing. A different story might be that the villain wins. But every story we have, every single one, can be considered an extension of one of several basic story types.

The challenge is to extend it in a way that hasn't been done before, or in a way that has, but better. Or, as marine said, "just because it's been done before" means nothing. Everything's been done before. It just a matter of exactly how you do it again that makes what you or anyone else does notable.

My theory is create a unique backstory and a unique personality will follow.

This only works if you have an overblown sense of empathy like me.

And importantly...you have to remember that for the large part, people are fairly unique. The same can be said of characters to a lesser extent.

"Pride" is up. Last Abductee Post, though probably not the last of Atka's dreams. Hopefully they'll take a lighter turn from herein, though. Been a wild ride, in any case.

With the posts for the base assault going up, we now move on to what will be referred to as the New Delhi campaign. With the aliwn influence for the base gone, India will be eager to rejoin Project X-COM. They'll even be providing us with some of their best soldiers, one of which is willing to become a MEC, and we are in dire need of those. However, first we must remove the last of the alien threats from the country, most of them clustered in New Delhi.

Esentially I need to know a few things from you guys. First, who wants to go to India for the campaign, and who wants to stay behind at X-COM incase an abduction mission comes up. And second, what would everyone think of a series of short missions, not quite as massive as a normal mission but more detailed then a mini-mission, in which I tailor the details amd events of the missions to individual characters and what you guys have always wanted to do on a mission (within reason, of course)?

Emily's always willing to travel...even to India. Can she ride a dragon in mine?

I also hope that no one is too confused with my latest posts. If you know one of my character backstory then you should know what is happening.

I believe Al would most likely want to stay at XCOM. While normally he would be quite eager to assist in the mission, after events that happen in the Base Assault...

And for the second thing, it sounds quite interesting. Count me in.
