I am not quite sure why Emily is upset... am I missing something? My guesses are Nika or just the base defense in general, but that doesn't seem like a reason to try and get into a fight or be cold to everyone.

She's paranoid because of shock and from learning in the span of a day the sheer amount of ways she can potentially be stabbed in the back, and she tried to pick a fight to look more pathetic before Morrigan inevitably chews her out.
She's also stressed from, well, her home being assaulted, a superior officer being murdered, the nightmares she's been having, the suppressed concern about Sunny becoming more and more of a combatant, worries about rumors spreading about her and Nika, and Nika going off for several days to possibly be augmented/psychified/genetified in some way that she doesn't know or understand.
She's just not in a good place.

At least it's over, understandable, they didn't seem to amount to anything (they weren't mind controlled after all), Sunny was only a combatant because we got attacked (there's no reason why she'd be in a situation like that again), Emily ought to denounce said rumors in a way that people listen to, somewhat understandable but also distrustful of the base staff.
(I ought to have one of my characters that's stable talk to her, perhaps...)

She's been through things before and she'll even out quickly, don't worry. This knuckle-breaking scowler isn't a permanent character change or anything.
And as for the rumors, you should probably know how a sweeping declaration of "really everyone, I'm straight" would go.

As I often do, I am using work to reread/catch up on the posts and comment on them.

Thank goodness, we don't need the story to be overcome by angst.
If I remember correctly, her declarations were kinda insufficent thus far. But if you just don't' deny it and stay quiet, yeah, people are going to talk. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I have faith in our characters at least to take her word for it. We just don't have her word for it. "Stop making people believe a lie, I am straight and there is no romantic involvement between me and Nika," might suffice. "Really everyone, I'm straight" sounds wishy-washy. xD

Well, if she told it to Atka or Ammelia, of course. But we're talking about random base mooks, of varying maturity levels. Many of which would like to think about two attractive females giving special hugs.
Emily is good with people, she knows the best way for it to blow over is to let it blow over. And it already has - no one's talking about her with the base defense on the mind. But that doesn't stop it from being another worry on the list.

I can understand base staff, I suppose. I'd like to think our soldiers have to be a little more mature, though.
That said, it could be argued they are the inverse. It just depends on the level of professionalism expected of them, I suppose.

Well, I'm not saying they're going to run up to Morrigan or pop up in the middle of a mission and say "hey did you hear, those two like to bump stuff", but it's just the nature of mankind and boredom. Put any number of any kind of people into a secluded and relatively safe place, and there will be intrigue and mischief until the place gets blown up or someone gets really hurt.

That special post I was working on is now done. I will admit, as a long time writer this is one of my few that I swear I got a little teary writing. Hope you guys enjoy this look into another's perspective.
