Maybe we should make some of the Etherials female. We have nothing to suggest that they are Mono-gendered like the Chryssalid or Clones like the Sectoids.

Although not specifically stated, the wiki says that Ethereals act as a 'hive mind' of sorts. Seeing how most insects have genders one can assume that Ethereals do as well.

That is how the Ethereals were in XCOM: The Bureau. Though not resembling female figures they had things like feminine voices, postures, and ways of speech.

Also note that, while there will be a pool of abilities all of the Ethereals will draw from, each individual one might have two or three unique abilities. I'm not entire sure which each one will be, but I have an idea. If you want to guess on what those abilities might be, it helps if you know what each of their names mean.

Here is an idea. If Atka were to visit Desmond and ask him about his 'telepathy' ability, Desmond shows her how to use it and Atka can take care of the matter personally.
