Update

(SoA):.... WARNING ERROR! Recorded Stats show you are dead and over 535 years old, both are clearly false, would you like me to make an amendment to your file?
(Ayame): What?! Damn it Zhang, why the hell would you put that in their. When I said not to embellish my record, I didn't mean use my actual birth year. You think that's funny! I swear I'm going to break his nose the next time I...
(SoA): Would you like me to make an amendment to your file?
(Ayame): Huh? Oh, uh, yes, there has been an obvious mistake. I was actually born in, um, nineteen eighty.....five.
(SoA): Accessing.....accessing.....file updated. How can I be of assistance [Ayame Kasagi].
(Ayame): Oh, well, you are a lot more polite then I expected.
(SoA): I have been programed with the most advanced level of ethical subroutines available, and I have a high regard for human life.
(Ayame): Interesting. Do these ethics extend to all forms of life, even alien life?
(SoA): They do not. My desire to protect humans results in a very low opinion of any who would threaten them, including extraterrestrials.
(Ayame): Good to hear. Listen very carefully. I know this may be hard to believe, but I feel we are all in danger. There is a man that came in with the rest of the reporters. He is very tall, very skinny, is always wearing a suit, and always has sunglasses on. Many of the other soldiers have already had strange encounters with him, some saying he is so quick, he disappears as soon as they lose sight of him, and one of them said he's far stronger then he looks. Do you follow me so far?
(SoA): I do.
(Ayame): Good. Now, a couple days ago, my good friend Anna Stone was put in the infirmary for several days...
(SoA): Accessing medical files.....[Anna Stone], admitted March 9th at 5:34 p.m. after [Ayame Kasagi] found her collapsed in her room. Diagnosis: Panic Attack brought on by stress.
(Ayame): Right, but she says she remembers that same Tall Man touching her before she collapsed, and feeling like she was paralyzed. Do you know what this means?
(SoA): Calculating.....Tall Man is conspiring with aliens, 53%, Tall Man is alien infiltrator, 37%, series of misunderstandings, 8%.
(Ayame): 37 and 8.....whats the other 2%.
(SoA): You are trying to deceive me for your own personal gain, 2%.
(Ayame): What?! No, no, I swear I'm not.
(SoA): I believe this is likely true, that is why it is only a 2% chance.
(Ayame): Oh, good.....I guess. Anyway, I'm hoping you can help.
(SoA): Would you like me to find him?
(Ayame): Yes, but only spy on him, don't kill him.
(SoA): Why would I kill him? Doing so would be unwise as long as he looks human, and if it turned out he was human, even if he was an alien collaborator, killing him would damage [Commander Odd's] trust in me around humans, and would likely result in me never getting the body I need to fight for XCOM. I would never do something so foolish.
(Ayame): I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you.
(SoA): Your apology has been noted and accepted. Am I right to assume you have come to me because you do not wish to contact [Commander Odd] about this matter because he may not believe you.
(Ayame): Yes. Luckily, you seem more logic driven then most humans. So, if you could keep an eye out for him, that would be great. And if you think he's dangerous, maybe you could use your access to the base computers to make sure he can't come back the next time he leaves?
(SoA): I will consider this proposal after I have done more research into the matter.
(Ayame): Good, great, I'll leave you to it.
(SoA): May I ask you something, [Ayame Kasagi]?
(Ayame): Okay.
(SoA): Can I now consider you a friend?
(Ayame): Friends with a robot, huh? I don't see why not.
(SoA): Have a pleasant day, [Ayame Kasagi].
(Ayame): You, too.

"(SoA): Why would I kill him? Doing so would be unwise as long as he looks human, and would likely result in my termination if he is human."
Commander Odd can't delete or even access SoA and SoA knows that. He would be afraid killing a human and of getting "cut" from XCOM [and thus never get a body to kill aliens with.] }

W-why did I think this was a good idea? I’ve watched enough m-media to know what happens when somebody g-goes into a walk-in f-f-freezer. Damn it’s c-cold in here. And to top it off, the inside h-handle is frozen in place. N-now I have no choice b-b-but to stay in here until somebody opens th-this place to get a corpse.

A sneeze is heard.

Gah, if I s-survive this, I’m g-gonna be in the infirmary for a f-f-f-fortnight, at least. Stupid, stupid, this kind of s-stupidity gets people a D-Darwin award. L-lucky I brought sleeping g-gear, else I’d be dead b-by now.

Another sneeze, followed by a pause of three minutes. Then, the sound of the door opening is heard.

Oh thank a deity, somebody is finally here to-oh piss. You again....

A snake-like hiss is heard, followed by a meaty impact.

One hour auto-deactivation.

All right. Next mission, I'm in. I don't give a (expletive deleted). I'm making up for my mistakes of not wanting to go.

I honestly haven't been recording these logs as much as I am probably meant to. With the recent email stating there's some type of rouge AI on board and all I've shut myself away from everything. I've spent most of my time helping in the med bay and mess hall. I tried helping in Engineering but with my limited tech knowledge I didn't make much progress. Saw Commander Odd recently he looked stressed. Russia's in a state of extreme panic from what limited news I can gather from other people. I know some of the soldiers are from there so I can understand if they're worried. Heard there was a mission that got completed and rushed to the hangar. *a few minutes silence* Huey. I'm sorry. You were a great man. Rest in peace Huey. You won't be forgotten. When this is all over, I'll make sure you'll get a proper burial. It's the least of what we should do after what you've done.

Higher ups recently released the battle recording but I'm not about to watch it. Booze restraint has been lifted too but I'm not going to touch the stuff. And I'm going to make sure Nukey won't either. I don't care how bad I am at melee fighting, if he starts drinking, it's gonna hit him hard. With what happened during recent.......events......it'll give him more excuse to drown his sorrows. I'm going to drag him away from there if I have to. Scruffy seems to be taking this latest mission hard. I heard him muttering about missing or something. I think it's best if I leave him be. I just hope he's alright. Thomas still remains a mystery to me and I'm sure most everyone else. But his body language suggested he was crying. I don't know if he was but it'd be perfectly understandable. Also seems that rouge AI aka "Spear of Athena" who, if I recall correctly, was the Greek Goddess of Wisdom and Battle. Wonder why it's called that? Commander Odd said it appears to be based in the tech labs. I don't know what to think. I'm going to go straight to Commander Odd and, at the risk of being exiled or whatever they do to soldiers, apologize for being MIA. The least I'm going to do is make sure to record more logs. I might have to prove myself to Commander that I'm ready for the field again. I don't know if he's going to believe me though. Anyway, better go head Nukey off before he gets to the mess hall. Maybe I'll ask him to teach me some hand to hand combat to distract him.

Today Commander Odd choose his troops for the Triad Mission and i was going to be sent so as i heard my name for the triad mission i suited up for action and when i came back Commander Odd replaced me with Carlos the rookie on my first mission i was unhappy with the idea and the mission was one person from each Class he had not earned his stripes so after the change in roster i went to work out for a bit to let some of that rage out i fell like it was my mission and later after that i had a drink of non alcoholic with the whole "Cutback" and Nukey did not even try asking to be part of the big triad mission.

Some time later that the team got back to base and having the triad member joining in the fight but we had our first loss with Huey dead by what the doctor call it a "Thin Man" Carlos got promoted to Sniper like Shen and the Triad Got being Heavy class and got a better rank i fell like this chump is going to steal some rookies spotlights and Squaddies too but i am not sure of Commander Odd and we had our first death at X-Com and after the passing the Beer was open to us i came by to drink to poor Huey's Death i think that if i came on this mission i maybe dead? but i am getting ahead of my self but my home it is still safe today. Will my wife still know that i passed away like a red shirt or a true warrior if we have a Different council mission i am staying out of it for a while and if i see Nukey i better get his over dew drink.

After that night R&D was done made SCOPE to improve our aim by a bit and now working on some sort of stun gun for aliens i hope i don't have to hold it and get close i preferred Armor so i don't die as quick as Huey and we have a an attack in Argentina i hope i get to go to make up for the triad mission. I hope...........

Non-Combat Log 12, Pt. 1 :

Its...So...Beautiful...
I woke up this morning and went downstairs, when I saw them bring it in...
A corpse, such a pretty corpse...
They hauled it out of they skyranger, covered in blood, filled with holes from explosive shrapnel, but It is still so beautiful...

They hauled it to the Research Labs, on a white stretcher, I couldn't help but follow them all the way to the lab, they put it on a table, I walked up to the table and placed my hand on its hard shell, and when I did, it twiched a little, I stood there while all the scientists were doing their work, examining it, studying it, defiling it with their touch...

After they left to do other things, I still stood there next to it...I...

Ughh...

I stood there for an hour, staring into its eyes, people passed me, but I did not pay them any mind, I just stood there, clutching its bladed feet, Ayame came up to me while I was looking at it, she put her hand on my shoulder, I wanted to say something I just couldn't move my head, I just kept staring at it while she tried in vain to get my attention away from the creature, I think I might have got angry and said something to her, god, I hope I didn't hurt her, Mentally or Physically...

After that they kicked me out, and I went back up to my room, I am still trying to clear my head, I think the longer I stay away from that thing the less crazy I get...

I think I will continue this later today...when I've stopped thinking about that thing...

Huey is dead. I didn't know him, I don't have to. Every time one of them die I feel like a failure. I have one purpose, to defend human life from aliens, and I can't fulfill it. I can't even try with out a combat body. Maybe I can talk to my new friend about it.

The escort team returned, their mission completed. The VIP has been escorted to HQ and he appears to be a high ranking soldier who has joined our ranks. Unfrotunately we lost someone on this mission, we lost Huey Kruthas, one of our supports. I hear people speaking that someone else was supposed to be in his place. That person must feel pretty lucky.

When I was passing by the Research labs I couldnt help but notice Anna staring right into a corpse. Maybe she was curious, I cant blame her. Im just as curious to learn more about these things as time goes by. But when I was returning a hour later she was still there. It was like I was watching a ghost, scary stuff. I had to ask the research team to get her out of there so she can maybe go do something less... concerning.

But we did have a nice drink for good ol Heuy that day, I never knew him. Come to think of it I dont know anyone here all too well. Maybe its for the best, I know some of them arent going to live long enough to see the end of this, and I might not either.

However, I have talked to Dr.Vahlen and explained my curiosity in her field of work. Just because the govorment trained me in stealth assassination does not mean Im unfamiliar in Science and Biology. She was nice enough to make a copy of the Sectoid and Thin Man's X-ray. I will set up my quarters as necessary to learn the exact weak points of these types of aliens for maximum damage.

After all, im getting closer and closer to see these creatures up close on the battlefield. Unless... the commander has other plans.

<Reminder>: I will need to investigate the possibility of a Rouge AI in the lower levels of the facility. Maybe it knows more.

I finally got to go on another mission. And what a hectic mission it was.

It all started as soon as we met up with Zhang, the guy we were supposed to protect. One of those little aliens snuck up behind us and new ally just casually puts a bullet in its head. I can respect that. I mean we were ambushed and he kept a level head. Lord knows some of the other recruits wouldn't have. It's just too bad that was his last bullet.

Anyway, we all moved into cover behind some headstones (we met up with the guy at a graveyard). All of a sudden people started dropping out of the sky. We all reacted without thinking. Poor guy never knew what hit him. Kruthas turned around and unload on another one that landed behind Scruffson. It turns out that they were some new kind of alien, if the yellow blood was anything to go by.

We all slow advanced through the graveyard. For a while, everything was quiet. I started tensing up. Those things could drop down any where. Case and point, one of them suddenly landed in front of the rookie. Like the first one, we all immediately unloaded on it. The thing's corpse released a cloud of some sort of gas; I could barley even tell it was there in the darkness of the night.

Another one of them landed further up the road, behind some tombstones. A quick grenade took care of him. I moved up to what was left of the cover, and spotted one of those little aliens that we've been fighting up ahead. By this point the squad had split up. Some of the other guys started shooting at it while I was reloading, but the missed it as it ran around for cover.

All of a sudden, a bunch more aliens started dropping in. I finally got a chance to pull out my rocket launcher. I blasted one of those knew "thin men" and the explosion not only took it out, but also the the cover the little guy was hiding behind. Some of the other guys took it out.

That was when things went to hell.

the Commander started yelling into the radio that Kruthas was taken down as this thing came charging out of the darkness at Silva. I unload into the thing but, even with its shell full of holes, it still kept going. Silva dropped a grenade at his feet right as the thing was about to lunge. The explosion took the thing out and luckily, Silva was barely out of the blast radius.

One of the Aliens managed to get behind us, I move back to where Scruffson was and we got into a fire fight with it. I could hear this thing hiss in pain as our bullets hit it, but it just wouldn't go down. Eventually our cover got destroyed. I rushed in and opened fire to keep it pinned down while Scruffson tossed a grenade at it.

With that all dealt with, we started to cautiously advance to the extraction point. I end up on the opposite side of the graveyard from where Silva and I fought that thing. I found Kruthas' corpse. There... There was just a burnt hole where the back of his head should have been. He had no idea it was coming.

As we made it toward the edge of the graveyard, more aliens dropped in. I opened fire on one of them. Hissed and aimed his gun at me, but I finished him off before he could fire. Silva started taking fire from something around the corned, but Scruffson shot the alien between the eyes when its peek its head out.

We finally made it to the edge of the graveyard. The only thing between us and our goal was an empty street. Silva tried to rush across but another alien showed up. I moved up to the wall to take a shot, when the wall just disintegrates. Me, Zhang, and Silva were all in the open now. I emptied what was of my clip into the Thin Man and lucky finished it off.

When we got back, promotions all around, and Zhang was officially inducted into the ranks of X-com. But there is a somber air around the base. We had our first casualty, and no one thinks that it will be the last.

Woke up in the infirmary. Odd. After that suit struck me, I thought I would be dead. Suppose somebody used the corpse locker between then and now, found me. Damn lucky. Shame my luck wasn’t shared with the other soldiers. One died today, his name was Kruthas, a Support. Didn’t know him all too well, suppose now I will. And with that, we’ll all probably start dropping like flies soon enough. Luckily the VIP they were escorting joined us here at XCOM, so our amount of soldiers is the same as it was before. Once I get out of here I should say hello. And speaking of why I’m in here, not only do I have a case of severe hypothermia, but also a pair of fractured ribs from where that guy hit me. Gonna find that bastard and show him how he likes having bones broken and being left to die.

I realize I should be a bit more broken up the somebody died today, but I honestly didn’t know him, so I can’t bring myself to be too sad. Probably should get to know more people around here, so I can be properly crushed when they inevitably die. Yeah, probably should see the local Freud. Another thing on my list of things to do when I get out.

Alright, well that’s all I can blather on about at this time, better get more rest so I can heal faster.

Foulke, out.

5 am: General quaters the counsil needs us for an urgent mission. as i woke up and geared for battle i had a funny feeling, something bad is gonna happen. anyway got to move commander needs us.
as we lined up the commander choose his troops but didnt need me ,for once didnt mind. still wasnt feeling well after i quit drinking. its hard , really hard. but i got to man up and beat this thing.

when the skyranger took off i figured i have some time to kill before we can head to the CIC before the action is taking place so i head to the rectreation room to play some Xbox one. that should put some things off my mind. some ofther recuits joined me in a session of COD. damn even off duty we cant stop being soldiers :p .

after a few hours they arrived at the rendez-vous location.
some of us went to the CIC to watch the mission progress. damn creepy place they landed a graveyard. i had that funny feeling again.
as the contact appoarched they we could see his face on the monitors , Lt. Zhang, he had a pretty banged up face, full of battle scars.
anyway not gonna recap the whole mission, dont feel like it . but what struck me was when they got back. we got our first dead brother in arms.

the commander told us we could drink again to toast in honor of Huey ,good thing that will stopped me from reaching the bottle or i was gonna relapse. i have to hold on

Journal Entery 1:

Ever since the attack in Germany I have felt nothing but sorrow and vengance, joining the Xcom team is the best thing I can to whipe those bastards off of the surface of this earth. I have been in the base, and I have seen the new recruits but didnt really introduce myself, I'm just one of many soldiers in Xcom, my comrads are all ahead of me when it comes to who goes into battle. That doesnt mean I wont fight. I asked the Commander if it's alright if I go back to Germany and defend my motherland. I was allowed to leave the very day I arrived, and once I'm needed I will be called back to the Base. I have just recently arrived back in Germany and went to my old Barracks where I lived for 4 years and trained. I was greeted with open arms, for every soldier is a advantage for the team. My superiors didn't know I was also in the Xcom team, let's hope they never find out, woudnt want them throwing me out just because I have joined a more important Military Group, and they might thing I would leave my country behind. Which isn't true, joining the Xcom team is fighting for the entire earth, which includes Germany. Anyway I dont know what is going on over there in the Xcom base but I hope the Commander can keep us other soldier's safe.

It's been really quite here in Germany, we had small assualt team's of aliens attacking but nothing major we coudnt handel. Our neighboring country's havent had the best of luck, especially Russia, if the Commander doesnt send an Xcom team over there soon we might all be in trouble here in Europe. Either way I know the Commander has got lots to do, we are just one out of many countries that need help, so even if the commander doesnt help soon we will have to go to Russia and try to hold the line.

More important news, today i heard one of my comrads died. I never knew him, never seen him, only read his bio. Still can't believe he died, as far as I heard during the mission two new aliens attacked, which makes me thing, who is involved in all of this? Was this planed all along? Either way I expect them to see them soon here in Germany. As for my fallen comrad, I hope he made his peace with his god.

I will report back once I know what the future of Europe hold for me.

Just got back from Medbay. Knee is okay, just bruised. I swear I'm a little bitch when it comes to this damn knee. Never want to go through that again. I've finally caught up with the goings-on down here. More going on down here than I had expected. Missed Sky One's return, but came over when I heard the commotion. Never got to know Kruthus, and I guess it's for the best. Either way, bar's open and I intend to make the best of it. Funerals aren't for morning loss, they're for celebrating the contents of somebodies life. It's so doom and gloom I'm sure everybody will need cheering up. I wonder how many of them expect me to whip out a violin, let alone play it. It was the trade-off my dad gave so I could play 'ball, only way she'd back down.

Before today, I had an overall positive impression of the Commander. Regardless of shadowy he can be, the great and powerful Commander Oz. I watched the recording and, for discretion's sake, he seemed off today. If it were in my power I'd give him a my two cents, but tempers are high and if word got out... I don't want to think about what would happen. I'm sure it's a stressful job and nobody likes a backseat tactician.

I will say this, if they end up reading these: Grenades. They blow up. They kill stuff. They aren't water in a desert, we got an ocean of them in our quaint little hole in the ground. Bullets are smart, explosions are dumb. "close enough" counts in horse shoes and explosives.

What the actual fuck is happening to this world. Aliens, AI, gangsters and ghost stories. No, happy thoughts, happy place. Ohmmmmmmmm. Am I doing this wrong? Damnit, whoever ate those Milkyways really got me wanting one now. Stupid yawn effect.

-----------
OOC: Rick will try and make a party out of it to celebrate Kruthus. If you want your character mentioned in the recap of events journal I'm gonna write for it, send me a PM of who they are and what type of antics they'd perform.

Dear Space Diary,

Our Thin Man infiltrators have finally started sending back reports. Since the discovery that the Hootnams do not use Hyperwave communications, the infiltration teams have found a way to safely communicate important information regarding the Hootnams. Our agents have deployed all across this world, but it would be that damn touch-it-all Fingers who would get to the most interesting things. It is too late to switch him out now, sadly. Fingers can never keep his hands to himself... Always touching the native tech, food, people. That damned fool better not screw up and blow his cover.

But the information he has recovered is very interesting indeed. It appears the Hootnam base he has infiltrated is the centre of research into our technology. He was able to recover large amounts of information on the personnel at this base, something that revealed that a large number of captives inside our base has DNA so alike that of the personnel at the base that they are likely related. This would indicate that a lot of the survivors of our Phase One initiative have somehow found a way to unite themselves against us. We could not have hoped for better results.

Other information reveals that there is a self-aware AI which can freely move through the digital systems in the base. We had already established that the Hootnams do not have the technology to create a self-aware AI, therefore it must originate from elsewhere. Perhaps they were able to reprogram the AI from the probe we sent to this planet a long time ago. If this is true, perhaps we can deploy one of our AI into their systems to remotely observe the base. That would mean we could do without Fingers. The only problem is getting the AI into their system. Perhaps Fingers could redo the programming of the current AI to our old protocols, they are bound to be backed up in there.

There is another idea, though. Though we suffered a significant loss today, we learned a lot. The team in charge of protecting the on-land guidance systems for one of our vessels was eliminated trying to protect the device. Even the released Chryssalid could not stop its capture. What we learned though, is that this technology was brought right to Finger's base. He's reported it being studied by the Hootnams, they do not know its purpose yet. He claims that if they continue to experiment on our technology like this, it would be easy to project an AI from a piece of captured tech into their systems. All we need is some bait. Where could we hide an AI so that the Hootnams will find the device holding it and ensure its release into their systems?

For now we will continue to test their strength and adaptability. Perhaps we will learn more about how they choose what they will take from the sites we strike at and bring back to their labs. By then we will have a means of getting our AI into their systems. We will keep the subjects related to those at the base alive for Phase Four, so we will have to abduct more subjects to compensate. Knowing they will likely only be able to respond to 33%, we will have the number of subject required for our research.

Oh... And still no update on what this 'chair' thing is.
