I am hella disoriented right now. I fell asleep for a nap at some point and have gotten like 4-5 hours of sleep, but not only am I dehydrated from it being so warm but I thought I had skipped an entire 24 hours for some reason.

Yea that happens, I constantly think that if I fall asleep at 5 am. I think I sleep through the hole day.

Oh, God... this is probably a 'no duh' situation, but never try to take a nap right after a large meal. Damn, my stomach hurts...

Ahem... posting a solo soon. Might be of someone you remember. A little different, I know, but I hope you (urp)... hope you enjoy

Sorry, me again. It occurs to me that I should clarify something. Naturally, I used all Ethereal names in the post, but three of the names are familiar faces. The main Elder of the post, Shen'lutusus, was formally known as Avaritia, Overseer of Europe who died as a test of the substance that ultimately nearly wiped out the Ethereals in the previous universe.

Two other names mentioned were Aphte'thonus and Aergian'hynopheus. Aphte is the real name of Invidia, who turned into other universe's Atka rival and was ultimately put down by her, and Aergian is Acedia, who was ultimately convinced to side with the humans and aid them in the war.

So anyone following the Poke-man's? I'm actually looking forward to Sun and Moon. A lot of the new pokemon look cool (with one or two exceptions), I love that some gen one pokemon will have new forms, and I think it is a great idea to do something besides the tired old eight gym then elite four formula. The only thing that irks me is I have to wait until November.

I am also fairly interested to see how Sun and Moon will turn out, as it seems like it'll add something new, and potentially good, to the Pokémon series. And like you said, Zombie, the new Pokémon look really cool and I think it might be my time to return to the games. :) (As I'm a 1-4 gen trainer. Evidently, I haven't played in awhile. :p )

You see they're going to have four player free for all matches? Sounds like so much fun.

I know, right? It sounds like it'll be a incredibly good game, so here's hoping it lives up to it's hype. :)

So... The Newest Episode of Steven Universe came out and it dealt with something that is core to our RP, the most contested argument in the history of our X-Com Rps.

It was the Mercy or Death Debate...
Essentially, Steven universe is much like X-com in concept, a space faring race of sentient gem aliens have been going around destroying all life on planets, then uses that planet to grow more gems. However, one day a gem named Rose Quarts had enough and split from the main race to defend Earth. Roses Crystal Gems and the Homeworld Gems fought in a fierce conflict that left many gems dead, however, when she could Rose took the moral high ground and tried for peace, when she had to fight, she stunned and pacified the enemy gems, rather than destroy them.
In the Newest episode we are introduced to Bismuth, a gem who was the polar opposite personality to Rose, wanted to destroy the invading gems to give the Crystal gems a better chance to win and to save their friends, but rose thought that would make them as bad as the invaders. In a fight, Rose pacified Bismuth and locked her away... Rose protected her morals, but lost many more friends that she would have if she had just compromised her morals.

This debate is highly contested with all of our characters falling on one side of it. People like Marx and Atka believe that in order to wins, morals can't play a part, people like Cathy have a distaste for violence in general, if she was in charge Cathy would go for a much more lenient solution and advocate for simply throwing the Elders out of power on Earth, rather than killing them, and sparing the aliens under them, as they are being forced to be cruel.

This debate is shown at full strength when you compare SoD with LoE, with SoD ending more peacefully towards the aliens and in turn, ushering in an age of peace in the galaxy with the races living 'mostly' in harmony, where as LoE is all about just winning and doing whatever we can to get there, we are too far behind the aliens to spare them consistently in LoE, if we try, there is a much greater chance that we will simply lose.

I always found the debate interesting and it still rages on after so many seasons of this story.

Personally, I have always advocated for peace with the aliens... As such a lot of my characters fall into that idea... Ammy risking everything to spare Acedia is one example, I'm curious as to what you guys personally feel about it.

A difficult argument indeed. Personally, I am all for peace, regardless of what my library of video games might say.

Of course, it all comes down to what options are available. As you stated, there was a moral grey in SoD that opened the door for peace, where as we are facing a more black and white situation in LoE. One must pay close attention to the enemies one faces. Sometimes, redemption and peace may be wanted but the opportunity for it has long since passed. Like, for example, with the Elders here. They are a broken race, ones that have gone over the edge and beyond. Their sins have become a way of light. Should some be spared? Perhaps. But as a whole they are far too gone, as many who know the deeper plot of the XCOM2 game can attest.

But the other aliens. Now... that is a harder question. And again, it is a question of how far have they gone, and how willing they are. Peace is a two way street. It doesn't matter how much you want it if the other side chooses to be blind to it. So in seeking it, you open yourself up to attack, leave yourself vulnerable. I do, however, believe the risk is often worth it, as getting along with an enemy should be sought after killing them. Just remember all can not be saved, and some do not want to be saved, or refuse to believe they need to be saved (a is the case with the Ethereals this time around). I actually applaud Gem for going with that stance because it is a moral ground not everyone is willing to take.

She wasn't saying you can't have zero morals whatsoever, and having morals doesn't mean you can't annhilate an enemy trying to genocide you.

Now,that said, the other races it's not so clear. Take the example of the Codices. As we've seen with Seshat (whom is my avatar currently, surprise surprise I like her) they're synthetic beings who were never given a choice and live in constant pain. I believe there's room to spare them... and this could extend to the races that haven't been so heavily modified there is no chance of redemption.

But to be able to even consider that prospect, the Elders have to go. They have to be beaten, thrown to their knees, and given the option of total unconditional surrender or death. Only then do we have the opportunity to attempt to free the other races, and honestly? How are we going to do that? In SoD we have the infrastructure of the entire planet. We've going to have to rebuild in LoE. Your own people always come first, and so there may not be anything we as XCOM can do to help this time. We're the anti extraterrestiral combat unit, it's not in our job description to help the xenos. They may have to help themselves this time around.
