OOC X-COM Think Tank (part 4)

With the fighting over, I wanted to make something clear regarding Shen'lutusus. I don't know if this was brought up in any of the parts (I think it was, but just in case t wasn't), but Shen was not just hiding in his tower, letting people die for him while he waited it all out. I considered having him out fighting with the rest, but his talents were of much better use then having him strengthen a single offensive. Using a room and machinery that let him extend his will across the city, he was coordinating the thousands of troops under his disposal, not an easy task for a single person, and Shen... is no exception to it, an Elder or not. If anyone was to see him now, they would find him mentally drained, and considering how much an Ethereal needs mental strength to keep their body moving, he isn't the healthiest.

Additionally, I hope I have made it clear that he isn't as cold as almost all of the other Ethereals. He cares about humans. If he didn't, he would never have betrayed his own people for them. As such, he is mournful of every life that has been lost, including those by XCOM. Just... felt this was important to note. Maybe not. Maybe just my attempt to give myself some importance in the final fight. After all, the things posted today made my silly little mission and following solo look like a first grader's paper on 'What I did during summer break" by comparison.
Hey, come on now. Morrigan's showdown was thoroughly enjoyable. And Shen's compassion is already noted - I wouldn't expect him to sniff at the death toll like "whatever" from what I know of the character.

Is... Is it wrong that I kinda wanted Leon to die there, in Yakone's arms, after she had broken free... Just, the emotional weight of that situation would be fucking crushing... The Conflicts, inner and outer, that would come to be from that! The despair, turning to hope, turning to despair, turning to hope again!

Sorry... Anyone that remembers the end of season three will know that I greatly value the impact and grief of a good death, but when it comes to death as a writing element, it can also be a complete disaster and ruin a lot of stuff... It's hard to get juuuuust right...
No, I get you. Obviously I know what you mean.

I mean, in Marine's position I would have considered it. But after all the stuff I put Yakone through I figured enough was enough. She's already ridden the hope and despair rollercoaster for a few months. Hate her mother, love her mother. Fought with Leon, made up with him only to get captured. Think she has a way out but it was a trick. Manage to break through her conditioning only to be suppressed. And she's finally free but she's killed people, hurt many of her friends, and seen a side of her blacker than her normal pride and wrath could ever be.

You also must remember that as far as drama would have gone it may have been an option but once that drama passed it would have left me my main sourcebof writing inspiration gone and story incomplete.

Indeed. The reason I'm the only one that's killed NPCs is because most other people can't afford to kill their characters and don't have NPCs to kill.

Meanwhile I'm just grateful Gem didn't pull a fast one on me and kill off Samuel's waifu. Nearly gave me a godamn heart attack. I'm just gonna take that and run, thanks.
Same here to be honest. I just hope we aren't talking about the same person...

Okay, I need to post this since I KNEW somewhere this would come up and that is the repeated question of "Why was Desmond okay with Yakone becoming Ember?".

The short answer is he wasnt. And I made it a point to show at key moments how he was always more strict with Ember, and put her under more scrutiny then the others on the task force.

The long answer is he had not had Yakone at all for all her early life. He lost out on what he sees as his greatest achievement ever. The fact he had her at all, even if controlled killed him, and in all the pieces in the past I made it a point to show Desmonds diacomfort with Ember. You also have to remember he had other priorities that kept him with Advent. Nouja, his task force, the fact he knew if he left the aliens would put a more dogmatic Colonel in charge to slaughter even more, and finally the promise Cordium had made to Desmond to allow his family to remain safe is why he stayed loyal. Its all explained in the nuiances I made sure to show. The whole reason he turned against the aliens is because almost all of that was ripped away from him, and Cordium broke her promise, if not directly. The aliens tried to gun down his daughter and the fury he felt, the betrayl, was the final straw that showed him he was fighting on the wrong side.

Here's a small solo I wrote on my phone to be a follow up for the mission.

I went with Genesis since this will be a new beginning for the rebels from ADVENT. Helps to distinguish one another in a firefight, and there are reasons in story too, one of the biggest being that the citizens being protected/evacuated would likely be more at ease being protected by Genesis troops then ADVENT ones, know what I mean? Oh and Gem... Desmond remembered what Yakone said to him in the cell. Hope you dont mind him appropriating the slur. :p

The beginning of something great. Food job, Marine.
