X-COM/XSDF RP THINK TANK (part3)

I just finished my first day working again. As with all first days, it was tiring, anxious, vaguely exciting, confusing, and filled with both talking to myself and glomming on to someone more personable than me and hiding behind them in the hopes I won't have to interact with anyone again. But, most importantly...

(I didn't earn that much...even in ones. Maybe nickels, or optimistically, dimes.)

I'm thinking for the next mission my daydream (not a real dream, taking into account availability) team would be:

PFC Brigid O'Brien [Unassigned Badass] ZombieSplitter53)
SPC Connor Karo [Infantry] (MarineAvenger)
SPC Osahar cin Ankhor [Marauder] (BMPixy)

+ Whoever else might be able to make it on Saturday. I'd be willing to take Tabitha (Ramma Scout), and/or a random volunteer in addition to the above PCs. Not explosve oriented people though.

Unfortunately the dream will never come true. Kinda have a prior arrangement on Saturday, which looks to take up most of that day.

“Eh, I only really watched it so I could keep up on my Japanese when my dad and sisters were out of the house,” Ayako replied. “And mostly the kind of stuff I watched was the old historically influenced stuff, as well as.... uh, other stuff,” she finished weakly, figuring it better not to divulge that selection of her tastes.
Well, that was implied.

You fighting me would be like a monkey trying to fight a man. That is to say, it would be muda muda muda muda!” she bellowed.
That moment when references like this are actually justified in-story and no longer subtle.

Also, regarding a comment Ayako has made several times... lemme clarify something. She mentions that engineering is 'male dominated' because men are the primary ones that are interested in the field, correct? Because there wouldn't be any sort of gender inequality in the workplace in 2044 (not that I believe there is as much of one as some people are worried in 2015, but that's aside the point). People would be taken in based on skill and dedication, race, gender, sexuality, blah blah blah nonwithstanding.

But still, the type of engineering that is focused on the Einherjar are a majority of male dominated fields, not because women are incapable, but just because it is more suited to big guys rather than a Brigid.

Eh, more so extrapolating based on current trends, what with the historical encouragement of women towards non-STEM careers. It's probably gotten significantly better by 2044, I will say however.

And I'm not saying there aren't more men than there are women in engineer, though it stems from qualification. For jobs that require physical strength, naturally men gravitate more towards those. It doesn't really have much to do with anything other than interest by gender and physical capability. I feel like we've... sort of held to that in this universe, though obviously there have been female heavies. I handwave that by this being fiction, though. (And if you noted, when I do NPCs I usually split them evenly between the genders, even if I don't have to.)

But to sum up: There is no prominent sexism in 2044. If our engineering crew (particularly hands-on engineers) is more men, that's just a matter of them being more interested than women.

The reason that I have been fairly adamant about discrimination taking a backseat (other than inter-species tensions that are more of a part of sci-fi, same with androids (though remember that androids aren't necessarily discriminated against, people are just nervous about what they could become and powerful people would rather be able to control them as if they didn't have rights even if they realized they're practically human.) is because I'd like to see different things than that. There have been many a story about people overcoming prejudice, and I'd rather our writers here branch out and come up with other struggles or tragedies in their characters backstories besides the 'easy buttons' that discrimination offers in regards to biographical history.

I remember talking about this around the beginning when Zombie was GM, and it was agreed that widespread knowledge of AIs doesn't exist, the only people who know there are fully sapient synthetics are their engineers, their superiors, and the people around said engineers who figure it out (and most of this population is covered under XSDF secrecy). I'm sure commercial robotics is close to AIs and there are equal parts excitement and discomfort, but no one should be bronzing Alice and yelling "behold humanity's children!"

Well, people are working on A.I. outside of the XSDF at least. Avanix and Sora operate within certain boundaries, Alice keeps to herself, Cheshire stays with Sunny... though there's the question of Ezra. It's been implied his friends found out what he was at several points, so I kind of doubt it's a secret to the public that the technology is there, they just don't know about specific ones or that there's many at all.

(Keep in mind that while you discussed that with Zmby, I don't have to uphold a decision I was never told about. So while I'll keep that in mind, it's not entirely accurate.)
