X-COM/XSDF RP THINK TANK (part3)

Depends on your interpretation. On the Roleplay Discussion Forum I made a thread about how the different RPs were different timelines and all that jazz. But overall, while there are some characters that are alternate versions of ones we've seen before, for the most part no, it is not DIRECTLY related to previous RPs.

We're not starting until around March when I've had a chance to play the game and make any changes to the lore that I'd like to make. I'm just working with what information I have plus anything I'm coming up with on my own. As a reminder, this is not a video-based RP, so there will be plenty of departures from the game itself. Not going to mirror it's story since they have a more solid vision on the actual game's story now, and I'd rather go with my own ideas.

Um... I can Possibly let you play an ADVENT character, but the leader of the Ethereals is my character. I don't have someone to serve as the human leader quite yet, but they're likely just going to be an alien puppet.

Whats the point of RP when all the important parts have already been taken by the GM's? Where is the player freedom in other participants? Although a normal XCOM soldier sounds good, other important parts that have a bigger impact on the story should not be handed out to most of the GM's >_>

But other than that I'm willing to play as a Human Advent Leader who is merely a puppet of the aliens. But can still make his own choices when the aliens don't do anything. And like I said I might want to play as a legacy character.

The point of the GMs playing important characters is so the story flow can be controlled. If everyone had a role in the major antagonists then the story would be unpredictable enough that it wouldn't go anywhere or would lead itself into disaster. If I say, am trying to plan the general course the story would take, and then someone's antagonist tries to backstab mine without warning, then that would throw everything off. I'm not going for Game of Thrones.

It worked fine for Story of Defiance anyway.

Yeah very fine until you felt like just ruining my entire story even though most of it has already been consulted about...

But that is that, what I meant to say is that a GM should consult and debate with people who have a bigger impact on the story on if there chances make sense or are logical before posting. But simply taking all the roles so things stay as linear as possible seems just like a bore to me.

But hey, what do I know right xD
I think I will pass then, and rather wait for Odd's RP...

Hey, you're free to your own preferences. I like the idea of a story that's more variable (that's what the fantasy story i do is like), that's just not how I want to run XCOM.

I actually do agree with Prisma's points here.

If you work closely with the people who are playing as important antagonists, you can still keep the story moving the way you want it, and give other Rper's a chance to participate in those roles.

Now, if you don't want to spoil things for people by having them play as those important characters, that info could just be classified for them since you're probably still going to play the biggest bad leader character like usual.

I can tell you as of now that both of my assistant GMs will be playing major antagonists. That's 3 out of... 10 or 11, I think. I remember saying this before, but aside from the fact that the more people that play antagonists (in general), the more I have to contend with and monitor (stressful)..

..there's also the problem of divided loyalties. Picture this. Everyone (or nearly everyone) is playing both a protagonist and antagonist. If the story were set up like that, people would have a hard time deciding who they'd be rooting for in battle. Not to mention that if you put 5 antagonists and 5 protagonists in a room... and there were 5 players, with each having 1 protag and one antag, that would get really confusing really fast. It overcomplicates things to the point where something's going to get messed up, someone's going to get upset when someone else's antagonist puts their character into an unwinnable position or something.

I could go on and on about how there are too many scenarios where someone's going to get mad or frustrated or confused if I wanted to.

Well, frankly, I feel like if people make an antagonist character, they already know they're going to die, so I don't really see a situation like that happening.

We could also have perhaps a 'One side' rule, that says if you pick an antagonist you can only have antagonists, or if you pick a protagonist, you can only have protagonists.

That is BS and you know it, it does not matter if a player is good or bad. If it comes to a player vs player there will always be the battle for putting someone in an unwinable situation.

Besides what I see right now is that really all the important parts have been taken by the GM's leaving the soldiers ONCE AGAIN... to the others. Now how thrilled to you think that makes the rest? To be once again put into a similar scenario and do almost similar thing over. Just with different characters and a different setting. I don't know about the rest, but I myself do not think that sounds all to amazing. And sooner or later if you start taking away all to good parts and leaving the plain old parts to the other RP people will eventually get bored and stop wanting to RP. What do you have then? A bunch of GM's RP their own story? That sounds fun I guess...

Seriously I already lost all interest once I saw that all the major roles have been taken. Wheter I play as an XCOM soldier or an Advent leader...both are just puppets...

Interesting idea, except would that apply to the GM as well? Because the character limits do apply to me. I've been careful not to do anything with my character counts that you guys can't. Even if it didn't, you, Pixy, and Tax are already signed up for protagonists. So it'd really only be the three newcomers and Dahl responsible for antagonists aside from the GMs, and I'm not about to put that burden on their shoulders.

...uh, Prisma. I don't think you are really in a position to talk about being burned out. You've never stuck around.

And you replied just a second ago. I'm not the flash. XD

I do work extremely hard to deliver an enjoyable experience to those that are part of the story, but I do have distinct visions of how I'd like things to go, and I stand by them. Some things need democracy to handle, others don't.

I had my reasons why I never stuck around and you out of all people should know that best. Anyway that is beside the fact. Bringing my unatandance duo to school or just simply not willing to RP a RP with you as GM has nothing to do with what I'm trying to point out here. Calling me out on that is just pulling at strings that arnt attached for help.

Okay okay okay okay... let's take it down a notch. There's no need for hostility here. I'm certainly not intending to sound hostile, so apologies if I'm coming off that way.

I enjoyed playing Lüsett and I regret ever having to drop the story and pass along characters to people who changed them not to my liking. But for what is was worth. The days and nights I sat on my ass and learning rather than RP just to finish Collage was worth it in the end. And by god that was the first time I had to abandon a character for my own sake. Trust me if I say it pained me greatly to have to do so, after all I was the one who suggested starting our own RP JUST so I can play as an Exalt. The timing of these events were just not in my favor. The second time around a giant misunderstanding and someones certain... GM's power over use, simply got my interesst and will to further continue the story lost.

But if we were to work this out on a stalemate level I would be more than willing to just play as a villian. Only one, just like I did with Lucy. And if everything works out and there are no issues with certain people. I'm willing to stay active on that.

I'll tell you what! I'd be willing to let you in, sir! If you would stop with the personal attacks! Be mature, for God's sake! In this quote I shall highlight all the personal jabs at me. If you think bullying and strong-arming me will get you invited into the next RP, then you're mistaken. At least call me out directly if you're going to be unkind, don't bother beating around the bush and being dishonest about it.

Alright you want honesty from me. Then here you have it.

I never came to liking you and it sure won't be happening anytime soon. Say what other people might say about you. Sure you are doing a great job and all, but you never showed that to me. All I ever got from you was either its your way or no way. And you are telling me to be mature? Then don't counter attack my aggression, I have every right to have them and sprout them whenever I want. It's my decission. I mean I sure ain't winning anyone over with my aggression that is for sure. But neither are you if you continue to keep calling me out on that.
