Alexia eyes fluttered open, and she slowly scanned the room around her. She noted the shapes to her left, one much taller then the other. In a weak voice, she muttered, "Hey Ayame... h-hey... Sunny."
"Hey, Alex," Sunny smiled at her injured friend. "How are... um, M-Modya was here... has been here almost the entire time. But we made him go take a shower and get something to eat before... um..."
"Before he collapsed and ended up in a bed next to you." Ayame grinned. "You've been here for two days, and he's spent ever minute he was off of training by your side."
Alexia blinked her eyes rapidly. What... what's wrong with my... She squirmed a little. "Why... why can't I move."
Her two guests shared a nervous look. Ayame scratched her chin. "Well... Jessica woke up twice since you've been here. Both times, she kinda... woke up screaming bloody murder."
Sunny nodded. "They've kept you on a lot of pain killers since then. You're so heavily sedated, I'm surprised you're even awake."
Wanting to be sure they weren't lying, and she wasn't actually paralyzed, Alexia slowly tried to lift her arm. She was relieved to find she could, but it felt like her arm weighed a thousand pounds. She looked up at Ayame in confusion. "You said Jessica..."
The Asian soldier chuckled. "Yeah... I was confused why you disappeared when you sister did. I figured you were just visiting her, but whenever I stopped by, you were gone. Sunny finally explained to me why Bruce Wayne was dressed like Batman."
Ayame nodded weakly. She slowly lifted her hand to her eyes, rubbing them. Sunny cautiously said, "Ammelia's okay. She hasn't woken up yet, but the doctors said she'll recover completely, thanks to you."
Alexia chuckled. "W-wasn't... me. Jessica did it all by herself." She sighed angrily. "She actually had the nerve to lock herself in a closet with a bunch of medical manikins in it, so if I tried to take over..."
"Why... would that matter?" Ayame asked, raising an eyebrow.
"It's a long story." The injured lab tech looked at her younger friend. "Glad to hear Ammelia's okay. At least it wasn't for nothing. But how long am I in here?"
Sunny thought for a few seconds, choosing her words carefully. "The, uh... the doctors said you'll be out of here in a few days. But they said they'll need to k-keep an eye on you. That Meld d-did a number on your insides, especially your nervous system."
Ayame watched as her green-haired friend stared at them when they spoke. "Y-yeah... they said that they're afraid the Meld was trying a little too hard to 'improve' your... your senses... and..." Alexia continued to give her a curious look as she spoke. "What's wrong?"
Alexia shook her head. "I'm not sure. Just... colors..."
"What do you mean?" Sunny tilted her head slightly.
"It's... I don't know, I... whenever you talk, I see... make a noise... clap, or something." Alexia watched Sunny as she slowly clapped her hands together. "Weird... like, fireworks..." She closed her eyes, sighing. "That's really... distracting."
Still confused at what Alexia was talking about, Sunny looked into Alexia's drooping eyes. "M-maybe it is just temporary. You should... get some sleep."
Alexia nodded, and almost immediately fell asleep. Ayame rubbed the back of her neck. "What the h... heck was she talking about?"
"I'm not sure. We'll tell the doctors when Modya gets back." Sunny fell silent, watching Alexia sleeping with a worried look.
