Incidentally, it might look completely random, and I wouldn't be surprised if none of you recognize it, but the language that Famine keeps using is actually not random. I will open up the vault and give you a thousand, that's right, a thousand brownie points, if you can guess/know what language it is.

Ah, Al Bhed...I remember cheating to figure that out while I was working on this school project to make a language, and I basically did the same thing (except with symbols instead of letters).

Cash Cow. That is all.
Square Enix's most popular series, and a lot of time and effort are put into them. Not sure if I'd call that a cash cow. Maybe the HD remakes, but not the original. Especially when compared to sports games, racing games, wrestling games, and shooter games that release the same, only slightly upgraded game year after year.

Isn't really a cash cow when Final Fantasy IV, V. VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, & XIII are on the list of the top 50 most expensive games ever made when accounting for development, marketing, and manufacturing, with VII being the fifth most expensive game ever at 245 million (368 million when accounting for inflation).

Grand Turismo V and CoD: MW2 are the only one of those actual cash cows to make that list. If you don't like the Final Fantasy games or think they are overhyped, that's fine. They're not for everybody, and they've had their problems in resent years amongst their own fan base, including myself. But you don't have to call them cash cows...

I am calling the latter entries expensive, but I mean that they're catering to people that want to see more of something that ought to be finished rather than run for over a dozen games. And thus they make gobs of money for the company instead of them innovating with a new series.

And my overhyped judgement is somewhat vindicated by such a vehement defense. :p

I'm not sure I understand. Each new numbered game has a different story, different worlds, and they implement different battle and leveling systems in each game (sometimes to the annoyance of the fans). You really can't say that about the Final Fantasy series without also saying that about Super Mario Bros. or Legend of Zelda, series that are far, far worse at repeating things then Final Fantasy.

I only played 4,5,6 so my knowledge is pretty limited when it comes to Final Fantasy but they weren't the be all end all games that I thought they would be. (6 being a sort of exception as the story was great but someone spoiled it for me which ruined the experience. I just hope the new ones coming out revitalize the series like some fans are hoping.

btw, I feel I should point out I'm not mad about it, I'm just arguing my point, so... you know, don't take anything too serious. I'm just a big fan of the series, but I know they're not the best out there. It is as a personal fan that I am compelled to defend them. Just because they're my favorite series doesn't mean they're for everyone, even amongst JRPG fans. One could argue that the Dragon Quest games, the Tales games, or the Persona games are better, and each series has its merits, and I've played most of them.

It's just... you know, I like Final Fantasy, and I would hope they wouldn't be put down, especially when they should be recognized for all the great things about them, even amongst non fans. No series is an end all, be all, everything has its flaws, but if you are a fan, you can see past them. Doesn't mean I'm blind to them. I could take my favorite game, FFVII, and go on a 10000 word rant poking holes in it, but at the core, I think it is a good game. I mean, I haven't really played much of the Persona series, because it has never appeal to me, but I would never question the merits of it amongst its fanbase.

Or refer to it as crap I wouldn't understand...

Salt detected. I said that because FF is absolutely irrelevant to me since I don't have the time or drive to play those games or learn a lot about them, and thus the reference you made with Famine was lost on me.

I use 'crap' analogously with 'stuff', not always negatively.

Fair enough. Al Bhed was a made up language in FFX, one that I barrowed for Famine. Fairly simple to translate, as each English letter translate to an Al Bhed letter (has its own pronunciation system, but don't have to worry about that in text). Used it because I felt it would be better then making up a language that would end up sounding stupid with no basic rules for how it worked.
