It's time for an edition of "Gem reacts to things and generally rambles on in an attempt to generate conversation"!
When I saw the title, I was expecting one thing... what I got was great, though see that the suggestion I made hasn't come into play QUITE yet.

This is your brain on ritualistic drugs. Also, nice description of the town, and I like that Lilith's modified genetics is an ongoing struggle for her. Maybe her daughter-in-law's biologist sister can help with that.

You know, as touching as this is, there's something disquieting about a Van Dam crying. It's not something you envision when you think of the tribe of people so badass you question if they have reality-warping powers or not.

Scarlet is a lot nicer in this incarnation, isn't she? Also, Lilith shares a nickname with An-Yi.

Lilith has something in common with Desmond's view of the old world.

Ah, there it is. The Scarlet we all know and love (loathe?).

Apex Predator, Guardian Angel, Tribal Sniper. Lilith has a lot of badass titles.
Just by the title, I knew Anna would be involved in this somehow. I feel like if Frost had lived in Salem during the late 1600s he would have been like "wait no don't burn them if they can do magic that's really cool!"

I like the contrast between how Anna and Marx originally were, and how they're on the same page now. It's dynamic.

The significance of this is not explained in this solo, which has me very curious.

Question for Frost: is this a product of genetic alteration? a symptom of forcing psionics out of someone with a frail body? I'm interested to see if this is a permanent thing or if, say, a certain 'seagull' couldn't help improve Anna's physical health.

Atka is beginning to consider forcing all the loners who got rooms to themselves to share one. :p

Speaking of people with rooms to themselves, I have a feeling Tom's AI would positively LOVE Anna and Korelyive BECAUSE they're scary.

I get a good idea of Anna's motivations here, but I'm left wondering what other aspects of herself are the same or different that she leaes out. Innocence is the main topic mentioned here.

Seeing the stoic break down is a great character moment, and it goes to show that Marx does have his feelings buried beneath that rocky, metal shell of his.

I suppose this does address to some extent my question about what stayed the same.

Hmmm... I suspect Marx may have a thing for musclegirls.

This is echoing the sentiment that Jennifer made about the aliens being more pressing that everyday fears, although the first half is wording weirdly. XP I don't think anything about 2039 means that less people feel arachnids. Hell, if you count Chryssalids as arachnids there are probably MORE arachnophobes now. (I see through your attempts to acclimate us to spiders! NEVER! I shall smush them into powder!)

I imagine there's an element of pandering to women with the Archon (and James Delanor), although the majesty of those bodybuilder abs on its own helps with their godlike image. As for Vipers... human DNA. Though eye candy is an added bonus.

Oh God. It's back. I remember Yakone and Marx discussing this way back in early Phase 1.

Character development! yees

Anna's appearance is a little bit Poor diet, lack of food as a whole, and a little bit constant testing.

Those things combined make her look like that, (Psionic testing on a frail body like you said.) so yes, if she so desired she could be cured.

The hair is because Advent doesn't have Barbers... :p

lack of food as a whole,
We have Cathy shouldn't be a problem anymore, thankfully.
The hair is because Advent doesn't have Barbers...
Yakone could be a hair stylist like Melissa if she wanted with her biokinesis.
if she so desired she could be cured.
Not sure why anyone would voluntarily look like a hag except for scare factor... but we wear full body armor so that's moot.
I like Tax, sometimes I wish I could learn the art of the Solo like him...
Learn the art of the banter. That's how you lengthen solos. I'll tell you want, stuff like Tomislav's internal monologues are a bitch to make meaty. A person alone is hard to write a bunch for.

Hay just spitting this out here, do any of you get a solo in your head. And you just get lazy and have no desire to write it, even though you want to?

Yes and no. I've had a few solo pieces I've been midway through writing that have been invalidated by a collab or something like that. I keep the uncoated around in case I want to hijack the stuff within - there was almost an entire part of one of my missions that was a pre-written conversation, for example - but I can't be bothered to actually turn that into anything useful by itself.

That mission was phenomenal guys. Really impressed. The ending even caught me by surprise. Overall, I enjoyed every part of it.

Funny parallel to SoD, with Frost being on both Antarctic missions, and both ending with Ethereal alive. :D Like poetry!

I like the parallels that get drawn between members of the main cast. By being similar, their bonds make sense, but in seeing those similarities we also get to see the unique aspects of their character that make them distinct.

Oh, and speaking of 'Yankone'...
Wonderful. Phenomenal. A roller-coaster of emotions. The good kind, with a variety of ups and downs not just the same kind of loop throughout.

I love the parental time, and if nothing else, Atka showed Yakone the importance of a strong relationship early on with a child. Then the confession... oh boy. Was sweating a bit there, and for good reason. But then the sweet release of hot, passionate love making. Not going to say sex solves everything, because it doesn't, but nothing says "The only want to bang is you" like doing the deed right then. To bad a certain someone has desensitized me to these kind of scenes, but is it weird to say the fact that it is behind a spoiler warning makes it seem a bit more... steamy? No? Just me? Okay. Either way, great read.

Once you're no longer that bothered by these things, subterfuge and euphemistic writing takes it a step further.

Oh, not to distract, but during the collab with Luke proposing to Alexis, I snuck in a little reference to VoF in the form of Alexis and Jennifer's middle names, respectively Aleksandra and Michalina. I was wondering if you caught the reference, Gem? If not, look at the names ling and hard and think it out.
