That collab had me wrapped up in emotion. It was an excellent choice to have someone who sincerely didn't believe Connor at first to bring out that pent-up conflict, and both sides played the resolution to it excellently. Brigid indeed reminds me very much of Atka, so much that I feel she has become the 'Atka' of this story, going around and making friends everything and being the glue that keeps the XSDF together. And Connor is an actual tragic hero, not like the ones my English teacher ranted about.
I swear to God, I wonder if this is intentional, but even outright IGNORING Connor's comments about the possibility of his death, I get the feeling he's going to die, albeit heroically.

How, Gem... that means a lot to me. Thanks. We tried our best, and I'm happy it paid off.

I will neither deny or confirm this statement.

The resemblance is uncanny. In design and personality.

What do you guys think of the new Commander? I've gotten the impression with some of the posts I've done with him today that the characters, and possibly the RPers by extension, think he's incapable of being effective, doubt him in some way, or just plain don't like him and think he's Astasha 2.0-lite.

Did I make some mistake with him or how I've set up the story so far? Or did Astasha actually make people mad at me personally for how I played her? I need feedback at this point, because I can't tell whether the blanket distrusts is directed in-story or OOC at this point. It may just be the problem lies with me being jittery, but when I'm shaking from stress over the story that's not good. I don't... enjoy the way Fred's been treated, honestly. This is my escape from my life of "keep trying, if it breaks you just keep going", and so I hope for my characters being treated kindly, not... with distrust and contempt.

Why don't you work how others look at him as an angle? Fred has it bad. Really bad. He was pushed up two ranks in a short amount of time, which might give him his own self doubt, and even if he was the most confident person in the world, he was left to pick up after Astasha, who left his very position tainted in the eyes of the crew. They aren't mad at him, the person, they're mad at him, the Commander, because of Astasha.

But he has worked too hard for too long for this. His brother helped him get through the army, but now it is time to go it alone. Aya had confidence in him, and he won't let that confidence go to waste, damn it! He isn't just Astasha's replacement. He can do everything she did, but this time do it right!

And I just want to say if anyone is hard on Gem for the way Astasha was played, then I have to apologize to him and thank him for taking a bullet for me. Because honestly... he played her a lot nicer then I was planning to.

Really, I was going to make her a despicable person. When Frost freaked out over having her as the leader for the entire run? That would have come weeks before the way I planned it out. But I feel what we got was an incredible bitch, but only one you wouldn't follow. If she was a normal solider, I'd see my characters approaching her to change her angry, misguided persona, but her position made her unapproachable. Who knows? Maybe I'll get the chance in the future.

Personally, I think Fred has to be the potential to be a great Commander. He is studious and knowledgeable of XSDF, and will follow the rules, but he is kind-hearted and cares about his people, so he'll enforce the rules in a fair manner. He might have to prove his worth a little, but I'm gonna give him, and Gem, a chance.

But please, Gem... don't get paranoid. You should know by now we respect you just fine. Personally, I can't thank you enough for the burden you shoulder. But... but you do worry too much that people are against you.

I like Mason so far... Even if the actions of a certain character of mine might have made you think otherwise, but keep in mind that it would have tried to be just as button pushy to Astasha... With... less than great results for it probably. :p

Dear God, I am actually on a roll here.

Anyways, I echo the sentiments of those above me. I certainly look forward to seeing how Mason handles the powers and responsibilities thrust upon him, and the expectations that come with it. Who knows, I might even be rooting for him overcoming the current prejudice towards his position (but don't tell anyone I said that [and yes I do realize this is a public forum]).

As (one of the) flashpoints for this uncertainty, I was just portraying Abigail as she acts with everyone she trusts. I treated Aya in the same way, frank and a little flippant. Her act in front of Astasha was a temporary facade because I knew she would eventually do something that Abigail would react more angrily towards (which would've happened very soon if she wasn't reassigned to Antarctica). I was going to expect Abigail to act more warmly towards Freddy very quickly, if not in the same conversation. And obviously, it's not "towards the player."

I probably won't be on much today or tomorrow, working on something else. After that, we'll see. So the antagonist spotlight is somewhat delayed, but to compensate I might have time to write a mission for next weekend.

Today on "A Day in the Life of an Insane Family," our hero Joe, or to his friends, ZS53, returned home from an 8 hour shift at work to discover that, while at work, his mother brought his nephew to look at pets, bought him a cat, and they lost the cat, all before he got home.

So he walks in the house to find everyone yelling, is yelled at for information he doesn't have, is yelled at for asking questions, yelled at for not immediately caring about the cat he has never even seen before and didn't know about moments earlier, yelled at for making a passing comment about it being 'oh well' if the cat didn't return because it cost $100 (please note that ZS53 has personally owned about a dozen cats, and by the means he has received them, he has paid about an average of $1.66 per cat, so he shouldn't be expect to know how much it cost), and finally, was yelled at for 'yelling at' and talking down to his mother, despite the fact that she has talked to her 30 year old son like he was a child since he was ten, and it gets more disheartening for him with each... passing... year...

COOL STORY, HUH!?! Anyway, that first solo has been done for a while, but something... I can't imagine what... distracted me. I'll post it as soon as I get a chance to edit it.
