Elizabeth was on her way. She was excited to be finally putting her skills to work but there was still a melancholy feeling of her. "If only Uncle Lyle could see me now." She thought to herself. She huddled into her winter coat pulling her legs up to her face, holding them and laying her chin in between her knees. She closed her eyes and dozed off. She dreamed about the past a lot these past few days. She thought about her mother and the stories Uncle Lyle used to tell her about her mother's antics as a child. He once told her that she was like his sister in so many ways, right down to whenever she would be stubborn she curled her bottom lip under her upper and would sit there until Lyle would tickle her into submission. That was the thing about him she loved most. He didn't act like a father or that she was ever a burden to him, he would always hold her and sing her fears away or sit with her and kiss her knee whenever she scraped it. He was more than the world to her, and now he was gone.
She remembered the first Christmas she had spent with him in Sweden. It had been a freezing winter and that day the power went out at their house. So what he did was he got candles and burned them and he had given her the presents in the candle light. It wasn't much but what she got was an original Gameboy in all it's gray, blocky, glory with a Mario game. She had at one time thought it was stupid, but her uncle explained to her, "Look beyond the outside and see what the object really holds only then will you know the true worth of something." So he left her sitting there in the candle light sitting with the game in her hand. At first she didn't understand what he meant but the she turned it over and looked on the back. There scratched into it was a little message that had looked like it was mad with a pocket knife. To my little sister, I hope you get as much fun out of it as I did. It was that moment she realized her grand mistake. This object that she thought was a piece of junk was something that her mother had been given from her brother. Teary eyed, she ran upstairs and moved to her uncle's room. He was sitting on the bed holding a picture of him holding a girl and when he saw her she ran towards him and jumped into his arms bawling like a little baby. "I had once given that to my little sister in hopes that she would have as much fun as I had, and now that she is gone it was time to pass it on to someone else." Still crying she hugged him even tighter, "If you are ever in a situation where you are sad and need a pick-me-up," He took the game and turned it on playing the Mario game that had been inside, "Just play this and remember that I am always here for you Rin."
Elizabeth woke with a start, realizing that she was still on the VTOL-type aircraft. "Rin...he was the first person to only call me that." Asking how much longer it would be the man in the cockpit estimated another hour s she passed the time the only way she knew how. So she reached into her bag pulled out the game device and started playing Mario, the sad feeling she had felt slowly started to slip away...with a smile on her face.
