It is important to note that last night... Frost implied Ayame should be voiced by John DiMaggio. You're weird, Frost... you're weird...

You know, Cathy was in part based off of Harley.

One part Harley, One Part Star Butterfly.

Jessica was physically based on Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy VII, given her height, weight, and measurements. It is even sorta a personal reference for me since I originally named Tifa Jessica the first time I played FFVII.

Split personality Jessica/Alexia was inspired by Lisianthus (Sia) from Shuffle!, a fun little fantasy themed slice-of-life anime. And they led to Jennifer and Alexis.

Jack is loosely based on African American folk hero John Henry, along with inspiration from DC Comic's John Henry Irons (aka Steel). Funny enough, that isn't why his last name is Irons. It is because he was originally created for a Resident Evil RP and was the brother-in-law to Racoon City police chief Brian Irons.

Morrigan is based on the Irish war goddess, and Brigid is named after the patron goddess of fertility, healing, poetry and smithcraft.

Everyone knows where Ayame comes from. And Joe... I don't know. He's just based on some jackass...

Desmond was based off of Desmond Miles from AC and Shepard from Mass Effect.

Ellie was based off my ideal love interest if I had to have one and a girl from a book series I cant eemember but it was super awesome. I'll look up the name sometime.

The Elites were all based on myself, which I think is why Fox was so loved by Zombie. (Cause hes a biased prick.)

Leon was based off a combonation of North from RvB, Jaune from Ruby, and Obito from Naruto.

If it isnt obvious this season version of Desmond was based off of Darth Vader from Star Wars, Rorscach, and Minato from Naruto.

Oh, oh! I love jumping on bandwagons!

My problem is that my memory is garbage, so I've forgotten the inspiration for most of my characters. Plus, a large number of my characters tend to echo archetypes or stereotypes rather than specific characters. I can give a few notable examples though.

Somewhat ironically, the more serious aspects of Samuel's personality come from Halo's Arbiter, though Ignium is closer overall. His lighter side, however, comes from a character called Myron in a series of books by Harlan Coben. Less self-deprecating, but the same sort of "there's humor in here somewhere". Gem'll probably call me out on this, but there's a bit of Joseph Joestar in there too. There is another character with some degree of influence over Samuel's personality - his more murderous side - but I'll withhold that info for now.

Arthur obviously fills a mentor role, but his wisdom comes more from the basic character archetype of mentor than any specific individual. One could probably argue there's influences from any of the older Jedi from Star Wars, and I wouldn't say you're wrong. Alan takes a lot of cues from Star Wars Republic Commando's Delta 62, or "Scorch" to his buddies. Samson came about as a result of my playing GTA 5, take from that what you will.

Terrash is, probably unsurprisingly for some, loosely based on Reinhardt from Overwatch. At their base, they're both enthusiastic warrior men with hammers. He also takes some notes from Jojo part 2's Wham, however. Particularly... well.

This incarnation of Lester is a combination of pragmatism and British upper class snobbishness. His character profile in my games of XCOM has the Basil Fawlty voicepack, partly because the constant indignation of that character is an influence on Lester's perhaps more human moments. Lucifer similarly is themed after the various butler type characters present in several shows, movies, and games. He could also be likened to DOOM 4's VEGA AI. There are times when the old AI programming bleeds through, however, prompting dialogue I attribute to some bastard combination of Julian from the Shen's Last Gift DLC, and HK-47 from KOTOR.

Going back further, Samantha's original character design - which I'll add was only meant to appear once, for that one time she saved Penny - drew heavy inspiration from Samus, the protagonist of Metroid. The other members of the tribe drew from various characters from that series too - Raider was based on Gandrayda, Gyro on Ghor, Pillar on Spire, and so on. Noxious was different in that he only resembled his counterpart in name (Noxus), for his actual character design is closer to Mr Foster from the Killing Floor series. Again, I never expected any of them to last as long as they did. If I had, I would probably have diverged a little harder from their respective counterparts. Indeed I did try to distance them as time went on.

If I had to pick any one of my characters to say I was closest to in personality... I'd say Charles. Bit of a joker, but to be honest he doesn't really know what he's doing. Anything he does right is usually more the result of a happy accident than any kind of plan. And Penny was loosely based of a friend of mine that... moved away after high school, to my dismay. That's a whole other can of worms, though. I'll forever maintain that putting those two together romantically is one of the most awkward things I've ever done in writing.

And Carolus? To be honest, I can't pick any character I know of as similar. I guess in a way she echoes Cynthia and Lusamine from Pokemon - both strong, initially enigmatic characters with a striking presence. One considerably more insane than the other, granted. But aside from them...?

Oh, fine.

My Story of Defiance characters are hard to nail down for inspirations. I'm rather illiterate when it comes to my breadth of characters I'm familiar with.

My reason for creating Atka was a desire to do something unconventional. Instead of the stereotypical American soldier-hero that propogates fiction with his rugged features and stoic personality, I made her. A female Inuit Canadian soldier who fought using tactical prowess and dexterity, as I knew full well my 5'4" warrior wasn't going to be able to manage in a contest of strength. I didn't want to justify her exploits based on her uniqueness: I wanted her to earn her ability through persistence. It was also fun to have my 'Guardian Spirit' come from the fringes of civilization to rescuing all of civilization. Her motif was the Courageous Wolf, which was why I had her comfort that dying Alpha.

Modya was a Cowardly Lion, so to speak. As the above may suggest, I'm not fond of the tough guy archtype. I wanted a male protagonist that was capable and skilled, but - in ways both similar and different to Atka - shaken and fearful of failure. He had a more sensitive side that I was able to connect with and thus play him properly. With him I got to dabble in someone that didn't have any superpowers as well.

Elene is inspired by just about every 'artifical human' and android story I'd read up until that point. Data from Star Trek TNG, Aigis from Persona 3, and others informed her lack of emotion blossoming into a fully-formed personality. I took cues from Prisma's work with Eve Exalt as well.

Thomas Burrck kinda just embodied the spirit of XCOM: Story of Defiance. The neverending battle against the invaders, the way in which all those involved worked tirelessly to rid Earth of the alien menace. He was the cool guy that reflected all of that; because of that I imagine he's easily forgotten, but Tom wouldn't mind. He just did his job.

As for my Liberation of Earth cast, those are easier to nail down.

This incarnation of Atka was borne out of my desire to push her character further than SoD ever had. I wanted to send her to her breaking point and then beyond to see if she could recover from it. We got to see the darkest sides of my Courageous Wolf, and that was quite the enjoyable experience. She takes on a lot of the mood that Bradford ingame has, but her brooding period was even more grim than anything we see in X2.

Yakone embodies the idealism of the resistance. The sort of spirit you saw in all those boys that went to their deaths in Les Miserables. She proves that such an ideal is impossible to reach, but that trying to live up to it isn't a folly if you can recognize and overcome your own flaws. She has strong elements of Kamina in her, with that reckless determination and refusal to give up or give in. The cape she wears is a direct homage to him. Her combatitive attidude, disregard for authority, and hot temper shares many similarities with Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill, as you may remember. Praclaritas is her 'Senketsu", and as their synchronization the last mission hinted, their bond has grown in the direction of what Ryuko and her Kamui had.

And yes, she takes cues from the first three JoJos. Jonathan's sense of justice; his black and white sense of right and wrong. Joseph's cleverness and trickery; the ability to predict opponents' actions so well he can forecast their words. And Jotaro's power and authority; the air of a badass that warns you that if you tear his coat, you're dead meat. Her exhibitionism and love of basketball is inspired by Suruga Kanbaru from the Monogatari Series, who - ironically enough - IS an actual lesbian.

Tomislav is the inventor with issues, a la Iron Man. His pyromania is inspired by a rendition of the Flash villian Heat Wave, whose backstory in Rogue War was revealed to be quite darker than I went with Tom. Superhero stuff has a strong bearing on who he is, although his sociopathy inverts expectations of his actual heroics .

I can't say too much about Vekinte right now. He does have a few inspirations, but many of them imply spoilers so I won't go into them yet. The basic idea of him is an antagonist far more intelligent than your typical big bad. He's clever and a visionary, one of the tier of religious figures like the Buddha and various middle-eastern teachers. The air he carries himself with in public is definitivly prophetic, yet he is not absorbed in his station. He IS captivated by his delusions of 'heaven', but the scary part is that he could feasibly achieve his dream if he pulls a victory out of this conflict. It would eradicate much of the strife within the Protectorate and its subsidiary species, although it comes at the price of free will being stripped in its entirety. He wishes to be a savior, but unlike the voluntary conversion many human religions offer his is an offer you aren't allowed to refuse. And despite his godly ambitions, his mind is that of a mortal who acts all too human, oscillating between humility and pride and other contradictions we all know.

You guys are awesome. Everyone of you. Never think otherwise. You're the best group of people in the world, and if there were more people like you, this world would be a better place. If ever you doubt yourselves, remember my words, "You... are... great."

By the way, guys. I'm a bit unsure of how I'm going to work the Honored Overseer into things, but I'm aiming to do the fight with the Fourth High Commander this weekend. Friday evening and as much of Sunday as we can get are the times I'd like to work on it, so you can prepare in advance.

Also want to mention that I will be prewriting some parts. Nothing that will detract from your characters influence on the fight. Just reveals and setting and such to make it take less time.

Ayy thanks man. Not too bad yourself.

I want to say good luck to you all on this. I will not be present, as in the spirit of SoD I will be doing something on my own. Samuel has his own final boss to fight.

Once again, good luck. I'll see you pricks on the other side.

Glad to see Dahl didn't forget about Scarlet. :p

Jennifer's sex life came as a surprise, but I like that. Realistic. Can't have too many people that are virgins or are embarrassed about their first time (Yakone took on the latter inversion).
